No, the team that nominates the next player for auction does not need to make an opening bid. He is open for bidding at $1.00 by whichever team bids on him first.

The defending DFL Champion nominates the first player at the Auction and it will proceed according to the draft order in descending fashion.

The minimum opening bid for a player in the Auction is $1.00 — which is also the league minimum salary.

Bids on players in the Auction must be incremented by a minimum of $0.10. There is no maximum increment, outside of what remains in a team’s budget.
